Summer Skincare Advice

The British Summer Time is always unpredictable and 2011 is no different.

One day, it's hot, the next it's cold and the constant changes can play havoc with your skin; especially when it is also getting subjected to various air conditioning and heating in the office, in the car, or at home.

These constant climate changes, whether natural or man-made, cause imbalances with the skin can can lead to an oily T-zone (forehead / nose / chin) or outbreaks of spots.

Why Does My Skin Come Out In Spots?

With heat, the skin pores open to cool then have to work hard to close against cool air. This constant opening and closing can lead to impurities. For instance, when you are hot, you sweat. The saltiness that is left as your skin cools can dry out your skin.

This is when the sebaceous glands go into overdrive to create oils to combat the de-hydrated skin. The following video explains this process.

Regime To Keep Your Skin Clear and Fresh

To combat outbreaks of spots or an oily 'T' Zone and manage your skin during changeable summer weather, it's just a case of adapting your skincare regime.

Follow your usual Cleanse, Tone, Moisturise regime once of twice and day. Try using the Eve Taylor Balancing Skincare Range:

Eve Taylor Balancing Cleanser. This mild cleansing lotion is rich in skin smoothing amino acids, rich Soya to ensure a stability of skin texture and the Basil and Rosewood help to improve resistance to bacterial activity.

Eve Taylor Balancing Toner. This facial toner with Rose Otto and Neroli maintains stability of the skin texture and elasticity and helping to correct imbalances due to adverse environmental changes.

Eve Taylor Balancing Moisture Lotion. A light, easily absorbed, moisturiser that will hydrate and nourish the drier areas of your skin without leaving an oily feel to the whole face and neck.

As well as your usual regime, add in Exfoliation. Regularly using Eve Taylor Exfoliating Scrub is essential to remove dead skin cells and also encourages blood circulation and cell renewal, which will keep your skin longer fresher, for longer. Exfoliate 1-2 times per week.

Face Oils

Face Oils are also a great way to ensure that your skin is getting sufficient oil replenishment. These can be used along with your regular skincare regime prior to toning and moisturising.

How To Do A Jessica Manicure At Home

There's nothing quite like having your hands pampered in a salon by a Jessica trained manicurist. But, if you like to keep your own hands and nails looking and feeling great, why not follow the Jessica Vartoughian manicure routine.

Firstly, use Jessica Nail Polish Remover to remove all the polish from your nails. Add some Hand & Body Bath to warm water and soak one of your hands for a few minutes. After this, dry the Hand thoroughly.

Next, apply a dab of Jessica Nourish Therapeutic Cuticle Formula & Phenomen Oil to cuticle area and massage in, pushing back cuticles gently with an orangewood stick wrapped in cotton.

Trim and file your nails with some toenail nippers. Avoid scissors as they encourage splits and fractures in the nail.

Gently file each nail in one direction (do not “saw”) toward the tip with the fine side of an emery board.

Next, soak the same hand again, then brush your nails briskly and dry your hand thoroughly.

Wrap the wet corner of a linen towel around your index finger and gently push back any excess cuticle. Using cuticle nipper, trim ragged cuticles only.

Repeat steps 2 through 6 on the other hand.

Next, apply two coats of your appropriate Basecoat Treatment. The first coat under and over the nail, second coat on top only. Seal the edges then allow to dry.

Generously apply two coats of your Custom Jessica Nail Polish Colour under and over the nail and seal the edges.

After allowing nails to dry for a few minutes, apply one coat of Top Priority under and over nail. Let dry.

Apply one coat of Jessica Brilliance, for a shiny fast drying finish, and a drop of Quick Dry for the no fault finish.

OIly Skin Could Actually Be Dehydrated

Have you got oily skin and no matter how much you cleanse it just won’t go away?

So, you're eating healthily and drinking water and still your face remains oily and you get the odd outbreak of spots. You've bought and used quality skincare products for oily skin and yet the more you use, the more frustrated you get as you can't sift that oily sheen.

Well here is some skincare advice that may be the answer to your oily skin problem. Despite the fact that your skin is producing oil, it could actually be that your skin is de-hydrated. Sometimes, with constant cleansing, you can actually wipe away the moisture layer of your skin which sends a message to your sebaceous glands to produce more oil to protect it.

In this short video, Claire Killick, Salon Director of Truly Scrumptious explains why this happens.

Choosing The Right Skincare Products

Make sure you take expert advice from your beauty therapist, who should be able to identify the problem and offer the solution. We carry a range of cleansers, toners and skincare products that can help you if you suffer from oily skin.

We took a telephone call yesterday from a concerned lady whose nails had started to peel.

Which product should she use and can they be "brought back to normal"?

Perhaps due to the rise in high street Nail Salons offering cost effective acrylic nails, many people are now suffering the consequences of a nail that never gets to breathe. It's a bit like skin, a healthy nail needs to be treated, cared for, hydrated and 'coaxed' into looking beautiful.

The best Jessica Cosmetics product for peeling nails is Jessica Fusion, which fuses the delicate layers of the nail to help stop peeling and also contains vitamins that condition the nail tissue for healthy growth moving forward.

Jessica Peeling Nail Kit is another 'all in' option, with three products that protect and rebuild your nails - Fusion, Brilliance and Phenomen Oil.

Peeling Nail Kit Steps

Apply 2 generous coats of FUSION to clean, dry nails going under and over the nail. Be sure to seal the edges. Choose your favorite Jessica Custom Colour, apply two coats under and over the nail, while sealing the edges. Let dry before going on to the next step.

Apply one coat of BRILLIANCE, again going under and over the nail and sealing the edges. For long, lasting wear, apply one coat of Brilliance the day after your manicure and every 2-3 days thereafter.

Massage PHENOMEN OIL into the cuticles and around the nails everyday.
